BREAKING: Vatican: Pope Leo Found to Have Lung Cancer

Pope Leo had a lower lobe of his right lung removed during surgery on Tuesday and was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma, a form of cancer, the Vatican said in a medical bulletin. The statement did not say whether the pope would undergo further treatment. A Vatican spokesman said that the statement spoke for itself. Lung adenocarcinoma is a common form of lung cancer. Survival rates for it vary greatly depending on the stage of the cancer and a patient’s overall health. Reports seem to indicate he has early-stage lung cancer, which is typically treated with surgery and tends to have a very high survival rate, said Dr. Sudish Murthy, a thoracic surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic.
